Produced by Reliance Electric, the 3FR4042 is a three-phase, 3 HP FlexPak Digital DC 3000 Drive. The drive is capable of managing the speed and health of DC motors, offering a range of capabilities to assist in this goal. The "R" in the model number indicates that the drive is a regenerative version of the series, meaning that the device can control the direction of motor torque in addition to the speed and direction of motor rotation. The first “4” indicates that this version of the drive accepts a line voltage of 460 volts. 

The 3FR4042 has input ratings of 230/460 VAC, 50/60 Hz, and 10 amps. The drive features a digital current minor loop and major loop in order to provide armature voltage regulation or speed regulation. It has an output that is rated 240/500 VDC and 7 amps. It can maintain a short circuit rating of 5 kiloamps and has a DC field current rating of 150/300 VDC at 10 amps. This drive is 270.5 mm wide x 477.3 mm tall x 310.6 mm thick and weighs 26.4 kg. This drive has the capability to have a 150% full-load current that can be maintained for 1 minute and it can be 200% for 5 seconds.

The 3FR4042 possesses a built-in user interface that has a keypad accompanied by a liquid-crystal display panel. The LCD has the ability to display error codes, diagnostic results, and operating statuses of the drive. On the keypad, the user can select the Quick-Start option, which allows the user to adjust maximum and minimum speeds, linear acceleration or deceleration, and more. The keypad can be adjusted to have its text display in 6 different languages/styles, and can be employed to efficiently edit a number of system settings.
