11C83K Reversing Dynamic Braking Kit
The 11C83K is a Reversing Dynamic Brake Kit with Contactor, fabricated by Reliance Electric. This board component is sometimes sold under the manufacturing names of ABB or Baldor-Reliance. A dynamic braking kit allows rapid and smooth stoppage of a motor. Without the use of this type of auxiliary kit, drives with normally open contactors will coast to rest.
The 11C83K is a long, narrow board with only a few components. These include a twelve-position terminal strip, a transistor, carbon composite resistors, diodes, polyester vinyl capacitors, a contactor, and a reversing contactor. The board is marked with a grid pattern rather than using reference designators. A significant number of surface wires are used on this board, from component to component and from board point to component.
It should be noted that Reliance Dynamic Braking kits are not designed to function as mechanical holding brakes. The kit will not prevent the motor from turning once it has stopped.
