About the 410403-51AW
The 410403-51AW is a Reliance Electric created SCR/Thyristor. This Thyristor may have been mass-produced by ASEA BROWN BOVERI and Baldor Reliance depending on what year it was manufactured.
The 410403-51AW is a 1200 Volt, 670-amp thyristor. It is used in the MaxPak Plus D-C V*S drive. It is used to convert AC energy to DC energy. Thyristor assemblies are also called Silicon Controlled Rectifiers (SCR).
A thyristor is a semiconductor device that will only conduct current in one direction. This device can be used as an open-circuit switch or as a rectifying diode. The SCR module functions similarly to a mechanical switch: it is either on or off. If it is on, it will activate and begin to conduct power. The SCR will keep conducting even when the gate current has been completely removed. Depending on the gate current pulse timing, the conduction angle of the thyristor might be in a different spot. The thyristor will turn off once the load current drops below zero or if you reverse the polarity.
The pairs of thyristors are just a small part of a larger module. Along with several other parts, the thyristors are mounted onto a Phase Rectifier Module. This larger module is a heat sink assembly and is removable as a whole. The phase rectifier module makes up one-third of a power rectifier and is interchangeable with other phase rectifiers.
