About the 63481-6G
The 63481-6G is a 15 Ohms and 200W Resistor. It was created by Reliance Electric although it was sometimes sold as ASEA BROWN BOVERI part number 63481-6G, Baldor Reliance part number 634816G, or Allen Bradley part number 63481-6G depending on the year this item was manufactured.
The 63481-6G was used in AC/DC motor control systems as a braking or starting resistor. It has a 10% motor control load. Resistors typically are used to reduce current flow, adjust signal levels, divide voltages, terminate transmission lines, and dissipate watts of electrical power as heat.
The 63481-6G is considered to be a wire-wound resistor which varies in appearance and size but shares the common feature of being wound with a length of metallic alloy (such as nickel-chromium or copper-nickel manganese). This type of resistor is the oldest type and is still used today because they have high power ratings and low resistive values. This type of resistor can become very hot and is usually mounted in a finned metal casing.
