About the 78177-1W
78177-1W Reliance Electric Thyristor Rectifier Stack
The 78177-1W is a Reliance component used in the company’s various drives. It was built and distributed by Reliance Electric under their company name as well as under the manufacturing names BaldorReliance and ABB/Asea Brown Boveri.
The 78177-1W is a Thyristor Rectifier Assembly. It is built from two vertical heat sinks connected across an air gap by two bolt connections. The top of each heat sink is connected on each side to side brackets for additional support. One of the heat sinks has a flat bottom edge. The other is designed with a curved flange bottom with a factory-made drill hole that allows the unit to be bolted into place.
Other unit components include metal oxide varistors, or MOVs, and SCR diodes. These are mounted in the gap between the two heat sinks and do the actual work of the component. The unit uses several wired connections to connect components.
