86466-91RC 1250HP Thyristor Assembly

The 86466-91RC is a Reliance Electric Thyristor Assembly for use within the company’s drives and their auxiliary systems.  Reliance thyristors like the 86466-91RC are no longer manufactured by the company but can be purchased from AX Control as reconditioned units or as never-used liquidated surplus parts.  Reliance parts were marketed and sold under the company name but were also sold under the manufacturing names of Baldor-Reliance and ABB. 

The 86466-91RC is designed from two heat sink stacks connected together using bolts.  In the air gap between these heat sinks, there is an SCR diode mounted to the interior walls of the heat sinks.  This component is surface-wired to other components that are mounted within a hollow carrier connected to the base of one of the heat sinks.   Components here include transformers, terminal pins, resistors, and capacitors.  

Thyristor assemblies function as four-layered semiconductor rectifiers where the flow of current between two electrodes (an anode and a cathode) is triggered by a third electrode (a gate.)
