86475-S Rectifier Stack
The 86475-S is a Reliance Electric Rectifier Stack. This component was sold at different times under the manufacturing names Asea Brown Boveri, Reliance Electric, and Baldor-Reliance. It is no longer manufactured by this company but can be purchased from AX Control as a reconditioned used part or as a liquidated never-used surplus unit.
The 86475-S is designed to rectify or ‘straighten’ an alternating current that intermittently reverses direction to a single direction (DC) current. The unit uses two heat sinks mounted back-to-back using two bolts. There is an air gap between the heat sinks, in which an SCR diode and metal oxide varistors are mounted. These components connect to a high-voltage capacitor that is located at the top of one of the heat sink towers. The bottom of one heat sink is designed as a flat edge. The other heat sink has a curved flanged bottom with two pre-drilled holes located near its center. This allows for secure mounting of the rectifier stack.
