In order to offset the voltage drop of the A-C motor at low speeds, torque boost is required. A high starting torque level may be needed for friction loads or high inertia loads. Manual torque boost is only effective at speeds lower than half of the base frequency. The user must start with the 2% default setting and gradually increase the function adjustment until motor operation is satisfactory. V/Hz (Base Speed) is the F-07 parameter on the SP500 drive. The range for this parameter is 30-240 Hz, and the step size is 1.0. This feature allows the drive to maintain a constant volts/Hz ratio, which allows for a constant torque at any frequency. The frequency value entered to establish the volts/hertz curve is the base speed at maximum output voltage (230V).
