About the 3020ENA485
The 3020ENA485 is an Enercept Network Adapter in the PowerLogic line from Square D/Schneider Electric.
The 3020ENA485 was created to facilitate communication between Enercept meters (which communicate through RS-485 communications, 2-wire with no parity) with PowerLogic power monitors and circuit monitors (which use RS-485 communications, 4-wire with even parity.) The 3020ENA485 acts as a bridge or translator between these devices and allow for smooth communication within the network.
Considerations that must be accounted for when networking a 3020ENA485 and other PowerLogic modules include:
-
No two devices on an RS-485 network can have the same address
-
The 3020ENA485 does not need to be given an address
-
The 3020ENA485 has no offsets. That means the only addresses available on a single mixed mode RS-485 network will be 1-15 and 17-63.
-
PowerLogic protocol devices like power meters and circuit monitors cannot have an address of 0 or 1
-
Enercept meters or other Modbus protocol devices cannot have an address of 16. The enercept meter provides an unsigned value for the power factor.
-
Circuit monitors must be updated to Firmware of 17.008 or above if they are added to a mixed mode string.
-
The end user cannot use the 3020ENA485 to extend a 2-wire NO parity network.
It is important to note the installation, maintenance, servicing and operation of all electrical equipment, including the 3020ENA485, should be done by qualified electrical personnel only. Failure to follow safety procedures may lead to damage to the module or to personal injury.
