An incomplete list of Proface GP4000 series FAQs. Let us know if you have other questions.
Here at AX Control, we field a lot of questions about the Proface GP4000 series. This popular series of HMIs is easy to use, offers remote monitoring, and easily connects to PLCs, inverters, motion controllers, and other equipment. Most units support two protocol drivers at once; some can support up to four. Here are some of the most frequently received questions about the GP4000 series:
Standard vs. Modular GP4000
Q: What’s the difference between a standard and modular type GP4000?
A: The modular version of the GP4000 series (those marked as PFXGM instead of PFXGP) has the same display, power supply, resolution, and connection options.
However, the modular units are designed to mount with 22Φ round holes instead of a panel cutout. Additionally, the upper range of the operating temperature may be somewhat limited in modular models, dropping from an operating temperature range of 0-55 degrees Celcius in standard models to 0-50 C in modular. The modular unit may also have a limited application or backup memory.
Proface GP 4000 and USB Devices
Q: Can I extend the number of USB devices on my GP-4000 unit by using a USB hub?
A: Yes, but this can cause issues. If you try to connect two similar devices to the hub, the GP unit may have difficulty differentiating between them. For example, don’t try to use two USB barcode readers. Additionally, if the total power consumption of devices on your hub exceeds 500mA, you will need to add an external power supply to your hub to support those devices.
Screen Protection Sheets for Proface GP4000
Q: If I need a screen protection sheet for my unit, what size should I order?
A: The correct size varies, but typically is the same for an entire series. However, the GP-4401T and GP4401TW units require specialized sheets. AX Control typically does not carry these products, but screen protection is still available through the OEM.

Proface GP4000 Units with Ethernet Available
Q: Which models of the GP-4000 series are built with Ethernet on-board?
A: There are two monochrome and sixteen TFT color LCD GP4000 units available with Ethernet. These are:
Monochrome: GP4104G1D (monochrome green/orange/red with green/red LED) and GP4104W1D (monochrome green/orange/red with white/red LED). Both units have 3.4-inch displays with analog resistive film and use a DC24V power supply.
